Be Kind to Yourself

I don’t always subscribe to the soft, fluffy, self-love approach to life BUT, the worst thing you can do is beat yourself up for wanting only best for yourself and for making the effort to do so. Many people are afraid to make the leap and will live out their lives in stagnation through fear of change – I hope the fact you’re reading these words means that you’re considering stepping off the treadmill and setting off into the metaphorical woods.

It is an exciting journey, and you want to be in the best company – your kind, authentic self.

Summary

Beating yourself up will only make it tougher to learn and to change. If you’re making time to improve yourself, improve your prospects and pursue a more fulfilling career then you have no right to speak to yourself like you’re trash.

How would you speak to your best friend if they told you they were struggling in their efforts to make a better life for themselves?

Take a step back, think of the bigger picture, you’re embarking on something amazing and you should be proud that you’re making strides that many are too fearful or ignorant to realise.

When things don’t go your way, or certain aspects of your progress aren’t going to plan or are taking longer than you’d like (more on this another day) don’t be hard on yourself – even 1% of progress every day means that within a few months you’ll already be more than 100% further along the path than when you started out.

Trust me, there will be some frustrating days when it comes to learning to code – and sorry to break it to you, but learning is a lifelong endeavour. There is no limit to what you can learn, so, chill out. By making the effort, no matter what the result is that day, you’re closer to your goal. Stay on the path.
